My dad is my hero. He crossed borders for me.
He left all he knew in another country to give my siblings and me a better shot at life here.
My dad is my hero. He learned English for me.
Each night in our one-bedroom apartment, he’d stay up with a flashlight to study English. His example inspired me, and he encouraged me to do well in school and one day attend college.
My dad is my hero. He worked hard for me.
As an immigrant, he worked long hours to put food on the table, provide a roof over our heads, and put a smile on our faces.
My dad is my hero. He built a better future for me.
After years of hard work and determination, he became a US citizen and proved to my siblings and me that anything is possible.
Many fathers in our community come to CPLC for English classes, job training, or help with their resumes so they can make their children’s lives better.
New fathers seek our help in learning how to prepare the home for their baby’s arrival. Other fathers take our parenting classes to learn how to better show up for their children.
Some fathers seek our help in overcoming substances so they can be there for their children.
And to the children of these fathers, their dad is their hero, too.
My own dad is my role model. My mentor. My guide towards a better life, Hacia el Sol.
Thank you for everything you have done for us, Papá.
I hope you have the opportunity to celebrate the dads in your life this weekend.
Happy Father’s Day!
Sincerely,
Alicia Nuñez
