I admire the differences that make each one of us unique. The qualities that make you distinctly you.

The most beautiful part for me is that despite our differences, our drive to help others has brought us together.

Unfortunately, our comunidad has been punished for being different—on the fields, in the classroom, and in our barrios.

As we celebrate Nuestro Heritage Month (i.e., Hispanic Heritage Month), we recognize the struggle for our dream of a peaceful, carefree life is not over.

We’ve shown courage and determination to overcome each obstacle.

Yet, we couldn’t have accomplished anything by working alone. From our family to our community and beyond, linking arms with those who share our struggles and dream of a more equitable future:

The farmworkers who fought alongside Cesar Chavez were Latino, Filipino, and Chinese immigrants.

The students who walked out of their classrooms at Phoenix Union High School were Black and Mexican American.

And so many supporters and collaborators of all walks of life provide critical support to make our mission possible.

We might have different origins, but our roots are intertwined. And looking back at our histories, it’s hard to detangle my story from yours.

So let’s gather strength from our sturdy, interwoven roots and reach for the future we want—together.

Because since the beginning, we’ve come together to stand up against discrimination, determined to find a better way.

To secure fair wages and a safe workplace.

To ensure every student can adequately prepare for college.

To provide our families with a roof over their heads and food on the table.

Today, we are as determined as we were 55 years ago.

We come from so many different places, but we are united by our shared vision of a safe, harmonious, and more equitable future for all.

We stand together, Desde La Raíz.

As we celebrate Nuestro Heritage Month, we invite you to follow us on Instagram, Facebook, X, or LinkedIn as we share uplifting stories, celebrate Latino heritage, and build comunidad.

Sigamos adelante,
