Strength. Courage. Compassion.
These are just some of the traits of the powerful women in my life.
The women who raised me, the women who educated me, the women who showed me their example of what it means to be a Mujer.
This Women’s History Month, we honor the mujeres who for too long have been forced to the background.
But we’re not letting that happen anymore.
Today, we bring women into the spotlight they’ve always deserved.
Like Dolores Huerta, who was already organizing farmworkers in Stockton, California years before she met Cesar Chavez and began collaborating with him.
Remember “sí se puede”? She came up with that.
Or like Coretta Scott King, who played a key role in documenting Martin Luther King, Jr.’s ideas and keeping his legacy alive long after his assassination.
She made sure we never forgot the dream.
Today, we center the mujeres who dedicated their lives to la Causa, like
- Rosie López, who co-founded Chicanos Por La Causa and registered many new Chicano voters;
- Guadalupe Huerta, who fought tirelessly for the elderly and people experiencing homelessness;
- and Terri Cruz, who wouldn’t leave work until she helped the last person standing in line outside her office.
For many years, La Madrecita Terri Cruz refused to retire, working at CPLC until her very last days.
I am so grateful for the women who paved the way for us to have a better life.
Today, let’s celebrate mujeres everywhere and aspire to their greatness.
Because I know that with women on our team, anything is possible. ¡Sí se puede!
Saludos,
