It was a difficult, yet beautiful moment.
When Sara* found out she was pregnant, she didn’t know what she was going to do.
All she understood was the love she felt for her baby.
Over the next two years, her son would become her whole life. She was fully devoted to him.
But Sara isn’t your typical mom.
Today, she is sixteen years old and learning how to navigate motherhood on her own.
Anyone in her situation would feel overwhelmed with responsibility, fear, and confusion.
Thankfully, Sara found help.
In August of 2023, Sara arrived at the Girls Ranch in Scottsdale, our group home for young mothers. She had been out of school for two years, and it was time for her to refocus on herself so she could better support her child.
The Girls Ranch at Scottsdale is one of our programs at Florence Crittenton. Our various Florence Crittenton programs help young women in our community who are escaping from physical, emotional, and/or sexual abuse; sex trafficking; poverty; homelessness; drug addiction; or neglect.
During her time in our care, Sara built upon her parenting skills by participating in support groups. She learned how to be a better mother for her child and developed better communication skills, which have helped her co-parent successfully with her son’s father.
At each of our programs, our goal is to provide young women with safety, hope, and opportunity.
This month, you can help other young mothers like Sara.
Join our Teaming Up for Girls Virtual Fitness Challenge (TUFG) and support young women in our community.
There’s still time to participate until April 30th. Every mile and every movement make a difference for the girls we serve.
