Chicanos Por La Causa is celebrating Breast Cancer Awareness in the month of October.
Latina and Hispanic women are among the groups most likely to receive a breast cancer diagnosis at a younger age than others by seven years on average.
Latina and Hispanic women are also more likely to be diagnosed with more aggressive breast cancer diseases like triple-negative breast cancer. To go along with this, they are also among the least likely to receive regular breast cancer screenings.
Lifestyle and diet plays a big role in breast cancer prevention, however due to the lack of access to fresh foods, Latina and Hispanic women are more likely to be diagnosed with breast cancer.
“We want to bring attention to Breast Cancer Awareness month here in Arizona this October. This is a disease that impacts our community in a big way,” said Lori Mejia, Vice President of Social Services & Education at CPLC. “We need to bring awareness to this throughout the year, not just in October.”
Chicanos Por La Causa also encourages women in the Latina and Hispanic community to get screened for breast cancer every year. Visit our website to learn more about what CPLC does for the community related to health services.
Through Women’s Health of Arizona, you can schedule a mammogram at the one of their facilities in Chandler, Gilbert, or Phoenix.
