Citizenship Question on the US Census

3rd Jul 2019

The census is a neutral tool to count the number of people who reside within the United States. A complete census count enables our government at the Federal, State, and Local levels to serve all residents. Any changes, therefore, that reduce census participation are harmful and inhibit our government’s ability to function efficiently.

Chicanos Por La Causa is opposed to including a citizenship question on the 2020 census because it will reduce participation. A low census count decreases resources for public services that affect us all, including roads, first responders, hospitals, and schools.

We are pleased that the Supreme Court ruled not to include the citizenship question on the 2020 census. As a plaintiff in this case, Chicanos Por La Causa has been on the front line fighting for the communities we serve.

Chicanos Por La Causa has been and will continue to focus on educating the community on the importance of participating in the census. We urge everyone to fill out your census form, whether online, via phone, or on the paper form, and make sure your family and friends participate as well.
