The Arizona Migrant & Head Start Program
Head Start is a national program that promotes school readiness by enhancing the social and cognitive development of children through the provision of educational, health, nutritional, social and other services to enrolled children and families.
CPLC’s Arizona Migrant and Seasonal Head Start Program is dedicated to providing Head Start services to migrant and seasonal farmworker children ages 0-5 and their families. The program is funded to serve a total of 752 children and families at nine centers located across Arizona.
Migrant and Seasonal farmworkers are largely underserved, in respect to the rest of the local population, and often resort to unlicensed childcare services because their limited financial resources allow nothing else. These hardworking parents spend long days in the field, often working from sun up to sundown during harvest. Additionally, the Arizona climate supports the growth of agricultural crops year round. Due to this, the AMSHSP operates a full-day, full-year, center-based program.
Opportunities to build new partnerships in education and family services are an important part of our AMSHSP Centers for Excellence. Service partnerships offer new ways for children to learn and grow. The AMSHSP centers provide many educational opportunities for parents as well as children, including ESOL and family literacy programs, oral health education, and mental health services.
It takes commitment and a team approach to realize the full potential of all our families and children. Our staff and volunteers are committed to providing the best early childhood education experience for every child enrolled in our program.
"I have never seen a staff that is more focused on their educational goals and professional growth than this one! Teamwork is obvious in everything they do. This group is one of the best I have worked with! They can achieve anything they put their minds to. The sky is the limit!" Joanne Floth, Early Childcare Education Program Specialist, Central Arizona College
Fun family activities are also a daily part of the experience at all of our AMSHSP centers.
"I think the center is a very good school because my child gets to learn while having fun. The teachers and staff here are amazing. They are here to help and share with the parents like myself new and valuable education information. I really appreciate everything the school and teachers do. I just have to say thank you very much."
Maria Perez, Parent
Shared learning opportunities for children bring the entire community together at our centers. Parents and community volunteers provide support every day in our programs, modeling leadership qualities that help children build confidence to develop and reach new goals.

Early Head Start
Early Head Start (EHS) is a federally funded community-based program for low-income families with infants and toddlers and pregnant women. Its mission is simple: to promote healthy prenatal outcomes for pregnant women, enhance the development of very young children, and promote healthy family functioning. EHS evolved out of Head Start's long history of providing services to infants and toddlers through Parent Child Centers, Comprehensive Child Development Centers (CCDPs) and Migrant Head Start programs.
CPLC’s Early Head Start Program is dedicated to providing high quality early childhood education and social services to 52 children and pregnant moms in the South Central Phoenix area. The program maintains an emphasis on serving pregnant and parenting teens. Teen parents and their children are especially vulnerable and require a high level of support and guidance to become successfully self sufficient. CPLC’s EHS staff work closely with parents to support their understanding of early childhood development and education and to help them acquire the skills necessary for success.
